GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

This timeline examines the positions of the Fédération des femmes du Québec (FFQ) on gender-based violence. It highlights struggles against all forms of gender-based violence, including domestic violence, sexual harassment, and systemic violence, as well as efforts to support survivors and end impunity.

2024

THAT FFQ invite its members to take visibility actions on Thursday lunches after each feminicide, using the same format as the Regroupement des groupes de femmes de la région de la Capitale-Nationale (RGF-CN);

THAT FFQ share the turnkey method developed by the RGF-CN to help members who would like to take part in a visibility action;

THAT FFQ is committed to offering support, insofar as possible, to members who wish to take action.

2017

THAT FFQ collaborate with allied feminist organizations active in the field of cyberbullying to conduct an awareness and denunciation campaign specifically addressing cyberbullying against women, particularly using social media and other online tools.

2009

THAT FFQ contribute to the work of the committee formed to respond to anti-feminist attacks, particularly in developing an anti-bullying plan.

2007

THAT FFQ maintain its participation in the anti-feminism committee of the Groupe des 13.

THAT FFQ (if funding is obtained) begin the follow-up research on violence against Arab and Muslim women, specifically:

  • by disseminating the results to stakeholders concerned with the issue;
  • by updating knowledge on immigration and integration policies;
  • by organizing discussion groups to verify the transferability of results to other cultural communities.

2006

THAT FFQ collaborate in reflections and actions initiated by various groups on the issues of the hypersexualization of girls, sexist advertising, overvaluation of the single thinness model, and commodification of women and girls’ bodies.

THAT FFQ support efforts by organizations seeking to persuade governments to take responsibility for public safety while respecting the rights and freedoms of individuals.

THAT FFQ engage with other women’s groups in a discussion on strategies to develop in the context of the rise of anti-feminism

2004

THAT FFQ, with a view to understanding and respectfully intervening with women from the communities identified, as well as with a view to inclusion and shared leadership, continue its work on violence against women from ethnocultural communities by conducting a survey in collaboration with women from these communities on the types of violence against women who are doubly discriminated against in certain communities, in this case Arab women and Muslim women.

THAT FFQ be particularly concerned about the rise of anti-feminism.

THAT FFQ call on the federal and provincial governments to review and enforce all laws pertaining to violence against women to ensure that women’s rights to equality, safety, dignity and privacy are respected.
